  • VCT Championship points; how they work and how to qualify for Champions.

With a successful VCT 2023 Season ending with Americas representative EG as VCT Champions 2023 Winners, a few changes have been implemented to the circuit and how to qualify for Champions 2024. The VCT Kickoff Regional Tournaments begin mid February and we’re going explain what will be happening and who is competing.

VCT Kickoff Regionals

The Kickoff tournaments are divided into four key regions: Americas, EMEA, Pacific and China. The top two from each region will participate in VCT Masters Madrid and gain Championship points for later Champions qualification.

VCT Kickoff Groups

The event will feature all 11 teams in their respective franchised regional leagues. This will be played in a GSL format involving three groups, however two groups will hold four teams, whilst the final will only feature three. The best performing international team from VCT Champions 2023 is automatically placed in the group of three, receiving a first round bye. The remaining teams are seeded into pools and drawn into the available groups. All matches are played as a best-of-three (Bo3).

VCT Kickoff Play-in

Once VCT Kickoff Groups have concluded, the second place team from each group will play in a single round-robin. The winner from the Play-in earns a spot in Playoffs. All matches are a best-of-three (Bo3).

VCT Kickoff Playoffs

The winners of each group and the winner of the Play-in stage will compete in a single elimination bracket. The Play-in team can’t be seeded against the winner from the group that they were participating in. The two finalists earn qualification to VCT Masters Madrid, with the winner receiving three Championship Points. These are used for Champions qualification and can offer preferential seeding at VCT Masters Madrid. All matches will be a best-of-three (Bo3), while the Lower Final and Grand Final are a best-of-five (Bo5).

But, how do Championship Points work?

VCT 2024 – Championship points

One of the main new changes to this iteration of the VCT is Championship Points. According to Riot’s official announcement, “Championship Points are designed to reward teams for strong performances throughout the season.”

This will replace the old trusted and eventful Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) that would take place a couple of months before Champions. To earn the final slot for each Region.

How can teams obtain VCT 2024 – Championship Points?

Teams will obtain Championship Points throughout the season by playing matches, climbing through the ranks, and more.

Here’s a closer look at the Championship Point system:

  • One point for every match won during international league play.
  • Three points to each league winner.
  • Three points to each VCT Kickoff and Masters winner.

The team from each Regional league with the highest amount of points will qualify for VALORANT Champions 2024.
